Iran Expands Nuclear Activities in Response to IAEA Resolution

Iran has announced a significant expansion of its nuclear program following a resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) criticizing Tehran for failing to meet its non-proliferation commitments.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), stated on Thursday that new technical measures have been ordered, including the activation of a previously unused uranium enrichment facility and a major upgrade of the country’s centrifuge infrastructure.

"We will replace our first-generation centrifuges with sixth-generation machines," Kamalvandi said, adding that the move would substantially boost both the volume and efficiency of uranium enrichment.

The decision comes after AEOI chief Mohammad Eslami directed the establishment of a new enrichment complex at an undisclosed "secure location." Additionally, Iran plans to replace outdated IR-1 centrifuges at the Fordow underground nuclear site with advanced IR-6 models.

Kamalvandi described the measures as a "calibrated response" to the IAEA resolution and hinted at further actions in the coming days.

The announcement followed a resolution passed by the IAEA’s 35-member Board of Governors, led by the U.S., France, Germany, and the U.K., accusing Iran of non-cooperation and violations of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Kamalvandi condemned the resolution as a "strategic miscalculation" by Western powers, stating, “They wrongly believe political pressure can force Iran to retreat. We had already warned that we would adjust our actions accordingly.”

While Tehran maintains that its nuclear activities are strictly peaceful and conducted under IAEA monitoring, it has repeatedly rejected what it calls "politicized pressure" from Western nations. Iranian officials insist all nuclear work remains within the NPT framework and IAEA safeguards.
