Kurdish Leader Masoud Barzani Mourns Passing of Veteran Politician Karim Sinjari
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and former President of the Kurdistan Region, issued an official statement mourning the death of Karim Sinjari, a prominent Kurdish politician and former member of the KDP's Political Bureau. Sinjari passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness.
In a solemn tribute, Barzani described Sinjari as a “devoted Peshmerga” and one of the most “capable and steadfast cadres” of the KDP throughout the different stages of the Kurdish liberation movement. He praised Sinjari’s unwavering loyalty to the Barzani path and his lifelong dedication to the Kurdish cause.
“Throughout the various stages of our people's struggle and the history of the KDP, the late Karim Sinjari was one of the party’s most capable and steadfast cadres,” Barzani stated. “He was a close friend and a comrade in struggle, dedicating his life to the just cause of the Kurdish people and the lofty goals of our nation.”
Barzani’s message emphasized Sinjari’s critical role from the early days of the Gulan Revolution through the mountain resistance, and later in important political, administrative, and diplomatic roles following the 1991 uprising. His contributions, Barzani said, were marked by loyalty, courage, and a deep commitment to Kurdish identity.
Offering his condolences, Barzani said, “I extend my deepest condolences to ourselves, to the family, relatives, and comrades of Karim Sinjari, to the leadership, cadres, members, and supporters of the KDP, and to all the revolutionaries and freedom-loving people of Kurdistan.”
Concluding his message with a prayer, Barzani asked Almighty God to grant Karim Sinjari eternal peace and to provide strength and solace to those left behind.
