West Erbil Emergency Hospital Sees Sharp Rise in Cases During Eid al-Adha
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – West Erbil Emergency Hospital experienced a significant increase in patient cases during the Eid al-Adha holiday, according to the hospital's director, Karwan Yassin Nankali.
In a statement released on Sunday, Nankali confirmed that the number of cases treated by the hospital during the first two days of Eid far exceeded those on regular days. "On the first day of Eid al-Adha, the hospital received 674 cases, while the number reached 479 on the second day — an increase of approximately 40% compared to ordinary days," he said.
The surge is largely attributed to the closure of private health centers during the Eid holiday, which led many citizens to turn to government hospitals for medical assistance.
Despite the financial strain caused by Baghdad's failure to disburse salaries to doctors and healthcare employees in the Kurdistan Region, Nankali praised the unwavering commitment of medical and administrative staff. "Our teams continue to provide healthcare services around the clock in the face of these challenges," he stated.
Among the reported cases, 120 individuals sustained injuries related to the sacrificial animal slaughtering ritual, with most injuries affecting the hands and feet. All received necessary first aid at the hospital.
Additionally, the hospital recorded 52 traffic accidents over the two days, one of which tragically resulted in a fatality.
