Erbil, Kurdistan Region — On the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Gulan Revolution, Nechirvan Barzani, Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), issued a statement on Monday emphasizing the revolution’s significance as a continuation of the September Revolution and a testament to the Kurdish people’s unwavering resistance against oppression and occupation.
In his official message, Barzani paid tribute to the martyrs and heroes of the Gulan Revolution, praising their sacrifices in the struggle for freedom. He described the revolution as “a unique example of a people’s will that never surrendered in the face of injustice.”
Barzani stated, “In the Gulan Revolution, the people of Kurdistan once again proved their readiness to make every sacrifice to protect their existence and freedom.”
Highlighting the importance of preserving the achievements of past struggles, Barzani called on all sides to protect the legacy of the martyrs, federalism, and constitutional gains. He urged unity and cooperation among political and social actors as the key to building a better future.
“Let the memory of the Gulan Revolution be an added motivation for us to seek consensus and peaceful coexistence, so that we may move forward together through joint efforts,” he added.
The statement concluded with a salute to the Peshmerga forces and a tribute to the fallen, reinforcing the continued relevance of the Gulan Revolution in the region’s political and historical consciousness.
