Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Congratulates Pope Leo XIV on His Election

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his election as the new leader of the Catholic Church.

In a public statement, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his hopes that the Pope’s papacy would be "marked by peace, interfaith dialogue, and reconciliation," reflecting the Kurdistan Region’s enduring commitment to religious harmony and global cooperation.

The KRG has long championed peaceful coexistence among different faiths and communities, and the Prime Minister’s message reinforces the region’s support for the Catholic Church’s role in fostering unity and understanding worldwide.

The election of Pope Leo XIV follows the historic tenure of Pope Francis, who was widely respected for his efforts in promoting social justice, interfaith engagement, and humanitarian causes. The KRG’s leadership has consistently engaged with religious and international institutions to strengthen mutual respect and dialogue.

As Pope Leo XIV begins his spiritual leadership, the Kurdistan Region reaffirms its dedication to working with global partners in advancing peace and reconciliation.
