U.S. Condemns Violence Against Syria’s Druze Community, Calls for Accountability

The United States has strongly denounced recent attacks and inflammatory rhetoric targeting Syria’s Druze community, labeling the violence as “reprehensible and unacceptable.”

In a statement issued Thursday, U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Tammy Bruce urged Syria’s interim authorities to cease hostilities, safeguard civilians, and hold those responsible for the violence accountable.

“The interim authorities must stop the fighting, hold perpetrators of violence and civilian harm accountable for their actions, and ensure the security of all Syrians,” Bruce said.

The Druze, a religious minority with deep historical roots in Syria, have faced escalating sectarian violence, particularly in the country’s southern regions. The U.S. warned that rising sectarian tensions risk further destabilizing Syria and the wider Middle East.

“Sectarianism will only sink Syria and the region into chaos and more violence,” Bruce cautioned, citing past instances where Syrians resolved conflicts through dialogue rather than bloodshed.

The statement also stressed the need for a representative and inclusive Syrian government that upholds the rights of all citizens, including ethnic and religious minorities.

“We call for a representative future government that protects and integrates all of Syria’s communities,” Bruce added.

The remarks come as international pressure grows for a political resolution to Syria’s protracted conflict, which has displaced millions and triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The U.S. reiterated its support for a peaceful, negotiated settlement to end the violence and ensure long-term stability in the region.
