President Barzani described the bombing as "a clear and blatant crime against civilians," emphasizing that it stands as a stark reminder of the brutality and recklessness of the former Iraqi regime. "That heartbreaking event is yet another testament to the brutality and recklessness of the former Iraqi regime. It was a clear and blatant crime against civilians and will never be forgotten," he added.
The April 24, 1974 bombing, carried out by the Ba’athist regime, targeted both the town of Qaladizê and the University of Sulaymaniyah, claiming numerous civilian lives, including students and faculty members. The event has since been etched into the collective memory of the Kurdish people as a symbol of resistance and sacrifice.
Each year, ceremonies and memorials are held across the region to remember the victims and reflect on the enduring resilience of the Kurdish people in the face of oppression.
