Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Masrour Barzani, held talks on Thursday with Germany’s Ambassador to Iraq, Christiane Hohmann, focusing on the formation of the KRG’s new cabinet, the resumption of oil exports, and broader regional developments.
Both sides stressed the need for a swift agreement on a strong and unified tenth cabinet before Iraq’s next parliamentary elections.
The meeting highlighted the importance of political stability in the Kurdistan Region amid ongoing negotiations among local parties.
Barzani and Hohmann emphasized resolving all obstacles preventing the resumption of oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline.
The KRG seeks international support, including from Germany, to help restart oil sales, a critical revenue source for the region.
Germany’s Continued Support
Ambassador Hohmann reaffirmed Berlin’s backing for the Peshmerga forces and commitment to strengthening ties with the Kurdistan Region.
She expressed Germany’s willingness to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields.
The two officials also exchanged views on Iraq’s political landscape and broader regional security issues, though no further details were disclosed.
