Kurdistan Region President Commemorates 45th Anniversary of Feyli Kurdish Genocide, Calls for Justice

Today marks the 45th anniversary of the brutal genocide against the Feyli Kurds, who faced mass killings, forced deportations, arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and the revocation of their citizenship and property under the former Iraqi regime’s systematic campaign. The atrocities were carried out solely due to their Kurdish identity and support for the Kurdistan Revolution.

In a solemn statement, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, renewed his call for the Iraqi Federal Government to fully compensate the Feyli Kurds, restore their citizenship and confiscated properties, and implement the ruling of the Iraqi High Criminal Court, which recognized the crimes as genocide.

"We assure our Feyli brothers and sisters that we will continue our efforts to reclaim their rights and achieve justice on their behalf," President Barzani said. "We remain committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure their grievances are addressed."

The genocide against the Feyli Kurds, alongside broader campaigns of oppression against the Kurdish people, represents a dark chapter in Iraq’s history, one that has only brought suffering and instability. President Barzani emphasized that this painful history must serve as a lesson to build a future based on mutual understanding, cooperation, and respect for the rights of all communities in Iraq.

The statement concluded with a tribute to the martyrs of the Feyli Kurds and all Kurdish martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for justice and freedom.

The Kurdistan Region continues to advocate for the recognition and redress of the crimes committed against the Feyli Kurds, urging the Iraqi government and international community to uphold justice and accountability.
