Kurdistan Region President Extends Akitu Greetings to Chaldeans, Assyrians, and Syriacs
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – On the occasion of the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year 6775 and the Akitu festival, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani extended his warmest congratulations to the Chaldean, Assyrian, and Syriac communities in Kurdistan, Iraq, and around the world.
In his message, President Barzani highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Akitu, one of the oldest known New Year celebrations, which reflects the rich heritage of Mesopotamia’s indigenous peoples. He praised the contributions of these communities in shaping civilizations and preserving cultural diversity throughout history.
The President reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to protecting the rights and freedoms of all its citizens, emphasizing the importance of diversity, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect among Kurdistan’s ethnic and religious groups.
“May this year’s Akitu celebration strengthen bonds of friendship and solidarity among all communities in Kurdistan,” Barzani stated. He expressed hope that the occasion would inspire a future of peace, development, and prosperity for everyone.
The Akitu festival, traditionally marked with religious ceremonies, cultural events, and family gatherings, remains a vibrant testament to the enduring legacy of Mesopotamia’s ancient traditions.
