President Barzani Extends Newroz Greetings, Calls for Peace and Unity
On the occasion of Newroz and the Kurdish New Year, President Masoud Barzani issued a heartfelt message celebrating the holiday’s significance and extending his best wishes to the people of Kurdistan and beyond.
In his statement, President Barzani described Newroz as a symbol of “spring, renewal, light, and freedom” for the Kurdish people. He emphasized that the occasion represents the victory of light over darkness and oppression, offering his congratulations to the families of martyrs, the Peshmerga forces, and all components of Kurdish society. He also extended his greetings to Kurds in all parts of Kurdistan, as well as to other nations and ethnic groups for whom Newroz holds cultural and historical importance.
Addressing the Kurdish diaspora, Barzani praised the millions of Kurds who continue to celebrate Newroz with “deep emotions and high spirits” despite being far from their homeland. He expressed pride in seeing them raise the flag of freedom and dignity during their celebrations, particularly in Cologne, Germany, where a major Newroz event took place.
President Barzani reiterated Kurdistan’s commitment to peace and coexistence, affirming his support for the peace process in Turkey and calling for a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish issue in Syria through unity and dialogue. He voiced hope that this year’s Newroz would mark the beginning of “peace and happiness for all the people of Kurdistan and Iraq” and that the region would experience security, stability, and prosperity.
Concluding his message, Barzani wished everyone a joyful Newroz, expressing his hope that the occasion would bring renewed hope and a brighter future for all.
