Iraqi Parliament Finance Committee Delegation to Visit Kurdistan Region for Key Financial Talks
A delegation from the Iraqi Parliament's Finance Committee is set to visit the Kurdistan Region next week to follow up on the implementation of recent decisions made by the Economic Ministerial Council. Atwan al-Atwani, Chairman of the Finance Committee, confirmed the visit in a statement to Kurdistan24 on Saturday.
The delegation plans to meet with officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Ministry of Finance and Economy in Erbil. According to al-Atwani, the Finance Committee will play a supervisory role, ensuring that agreements between the federal government and the KRG regarding key financial matters—such as salaries, taxes, customs, and border crossings—are being upheld.
Al-Atwani stressed that there are no current obstacles to the disbursement of salaries for KRG employees, reassuring that payments will continue through December, in accordance with a recent decision by the Iraqi Council of Ministers.
This visit comes after a positive joint meeting between the KRG Council of Ministers and the Federal Iraqi Council of Ministers, during which solutions were discussed for several financial issues, including the non-payment of salaries to some KRG employees due to a lack of vacancy reference numbers.
The meetings, described as open and constructive, resulted in decisions on certain matters and recommendations to the Federal Council of Ministers on others. Discussions on unresolved issues will continue in future dialogues.
The upcoming visit highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation and resolve financial challenges between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
