Universities across the Kurdistan Region are preparing for the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, set to begin in early September. While the exact dates vary by institution, most universities have announced their schedules and dormitory allocation plans.

Salahaddin University in Erbil has proposed September 2, 2024, as the start date for the new academic year. Although this date has yet to receive official approval from the University Council, University President Kamaran Younis confirmed that faculty members will begin their duties one day prior to the students' return. Dormitory allocations are expected to be completed a week before classes begin.

The University of Duhok has officially set September 2, 2024, as the first day of the academic year, with teaching staff starting a day earlier, according to University President Dawood Atrushi. Dormitory assignments will be made a few days before the start of classes.

Zakho University will begin its academic year on September 10, 2024, as stated by the Vice President for Student Affairs, Ramadan Jafar. Dormitory allocations will be completed a few days before the start of classes. The first week of the academic year will focus on student registration within the Bologna system, which has been in place in several universities in the region for years.

Soran University is also set to begin the new academic year in early September. According to Media Officer Abdul Ghafar Aziz, dormitory allocations have been ongoing since August 15 and will continue until August 31.

Halabja University has not yet set an official start date for the new academic year due to ongoing administrative changes, according to Media Officer Harem Mohammed. However, the start date is expected to fall between September 1 and 3.

The University of Sulaimani has also yet to finalize its start date for the 2024-2025 academic year. A proposal has been made to the University Council suggesting a start date between September 5 and 10, 2024.
