Erbil Governorate Initiates Environmentally Friendly Rehabilitation Project for Historic Cemetery
The Erbil Governorate announced on Tuesday the rehabilitation of one of its oldest cemeteries located in the city center, adjacent to the Nishtiman Market. Emphasizing the project's environmental friendliness, the governorate revealed plans for tree planting and the creation of a 650-square-meter park.
According to a statement released by the governorate and reported by Basnews, Governor Omed Khoshnaw, accompanied by Deputy Governor Masoud Karsh, Mayor of Erbil Abdulwahid Ahmed, and the Director of the Environmental Protection Office in Erbil, Jiyar Jalal, visited the restoration project of the Grand Cemetery in Erbil.
The statement added, "Given the importance of the cemetery as part of the ancient heritage and history of the city, the project will include increasing the greenery, planting special trees around the cemetery, general restoration and painting of the front wall. Additionally, a park will be established within the cemetery spanning an area of 650 square meters, complete with designated pathways for citizens and comprehensive cleaning of the entire cemetery."
Governor Khoshnaw provided instructions for the project, emphasizing that "this work requires attention to detail as the cemetery holds memories of the loved ones of Erbil's residents."
