Iranian Teenager Faces Harsh Detention and Alleged Torture for

In a disconcerting turn of events, Iranian authorities have sentenced 17-year-old Nirwana Torbati from Gorgan city to 10 months of detention and a monetary penalty of two million Iranian Toman. The charges leveled against her include "propaganda against the government" and "gathering and collusion," as confirmed by the 5th Branch of the Gorgan Criminal Court, as reported by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights on Sunday.

Disturbingly, a reliable source connected to Nirwana's family disclosed that the teenager has suffered infections and inflammatory symptoms due to her confinement in solitary. The report further details her ordeal, including blindfolded interrogations lasting up to 5 hours in clandestine detention centers, leading to Nirwana losing consciousness multiple times.

The international community has raised its voice in condemnation of Iran's human rights violations, expressing particular concern over the employment of degrading and inhumane punishments, such as flogging and hanging. This incident follows a pattern of controversial judicial decisions in Iran, as seen in November of last year when authorities executed a Kurdish teenager in the province of Khorasan after spending more than a year in prison for an alleged murder.

As calls for justice and human rights echo globally, the fate of Nirwana Torbati remains uncertain, underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by individuals at the hands of the Iranian judicial system.
