Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), has reaffirmed his unwavering support for the peaceful resolution of internal issues, including political differences among major parties in the Kurdistan Region. Barzani made these statements during a meeting held on Monday with the US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina L. Romanowski, and her accompanying delegation in Erbil.
In a press release issued by the Barzani Headquarters, it was highlighted that the discussions between Barzani and Ambassador Romanowski covered a range of critical topics, including the political situation in Iraq and the broader region. Of particular concern were the challenges and problems affecting relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government of Iraq. Ambassador Romanowski expressed the United States' support for both the KRG and the federal government, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue, negotiations, and the pursuit of mutually agreeable solutions. The budget and other pending matters were among the key areas of focus. Additionally, she conveyed her deep concern over recent tensions and events in Kirkuk, which regrettably resulted in civilian casualties.
President Barzani reiterated his support for Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and signaled that discussions aimed at resolving pressing issues would persist. He emphasized the urgent need to take necessary steps to restore stability in Kirkuk, while also emphasizing the importance of pursuing legal actions against those responsible for the chaos and loss of life.
