US Welcomes Kurdistan President Nechirvan Barzani's Inclusion in Baghdad Talks

The United States has welcomed the participation of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in discussions to enhance coordination between Baghdad and the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

The United States has welcomed Barzani's participation in the talks. In a statement, the U.S. National Security Council said that it "welcomes the participation of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in these discussions to further enhance coordination between Baghdad and the Iraqi Kurdistan region."

Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani's visit to the Iraqi capital on June 15 was warmly welcomed by the United States. The US reaffirmed its unwavering support for Iraq's sovereignty, independence, and its ongoing efforts to integrate into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the broader Arab region.

Over the past year, Iraq has been making notable progress towards achieving energy self-sufficiency. One of the key initiatives involves connecting its energy grid to those of the GCC and Jordan. These infrastructure projects were originally announced during President Biden's visit to the Middle East last year and are now being realized with active facilitation and support from the United States.

Another significant development is the landmark project signed earlier this year, which involves TotalEnergies along with US and Qatari companies. This project focuses on natural gas capture, serving both the needs of the Iraqi people and reducing emissions. The United States commends the active support of Sheikh al-Thani, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, other regional leaders, and the Iraqi people in promoting these vital initiatives.

In addition to these advancements, the participation of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in the discussions is highly appreciated. This inclusive approach is expected to foster stronger coordination between Baghdad and the Iraqi Kurdistan region, bringing about greater unity and progress for Iraq as a whole.

The United States recognizes the importance of engaging all relevant stakeholders in shaping a more integrated and prosperous Iraq. By welcoming President Barzani's involvement, the discussions in Baghdad have taken a significant step forward in strengthening coordination between the capital and the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region.

As the discussions concluded, the United States reiterated its commitment to supporting Iraq's sovereignty, independence, and its integration into the GCC and the broader Arab region. The active participation of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has been highlighted as a positive development, paving the way for enhanced coordination and cooperation between Baghdad and the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

The visit of Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani to Baghdad and the subsequent discussions have set a solid foundation for continued collaboration among all parties involved. These efforts are aimed at advancing Iraq's regional integration, fostering stability, and propelling the nation towards a prosperous future.
