Kurdish-German Economic Forum Kickstarts in Erbil, Promoting Bilateral Trade and Investments
In a momentous event, the Kurdish-German Economic Forum commenced today in the capital city of Erbil.
The forum witnessed the participation of representatives, delegates, and top executives from more than 30 prominent German companies, alongside a significant delegation of officials and business leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Omid Khoshnaw expressed his confidence that the forum would serve as a catalyst in strengthening economic and trade ties between the Kurdistan Region and Germany. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the visionary approach of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and his ninth cabinet, which aims to expand and diversify economic partnerships, attract investments, and entice global corporations to invest in the Kurdistan Region.
Dara Jalil Al-Khayat, the President of the Union of Chambers of Commerce in the Kurdistan Region, shed light on the forum's purpose, revealing that it kicked off promptly at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The event facilitated the participation of German companies as well as their Kurdish counterparts from the provinces of Erbil, Sulaimaniyah, and Dohuk. Al-Khayat underscored that the primary objective of the forum is to foster and enhance economic, trade, and industrial relations between companies in the region and their German counterparts, with a keen focus on future collaborations and joint projects.
Highlighting the tremendous positive impact such economic engagements have on the Kurdistan Region, Al-Khayat emphasized the crucial role played by influential global companies and their substantial investments in the region's economy. He cited the region's open and progressive policies, coupled with its growing integration with the global community, as strong motivations for countries such as Germany, boasting one of Europe's most robust economies, to explore and expand cooperation with the Kurdistan Region.
The forum aims to attract German companies to invest in a wide range of industrial and commercial sectors within the Kurdistan Region. Al-Khayat assured the German delegation that all necessary facilitations and support would be extended to ensure their seamless integration into the region's business landscape. Additionally, the German representatives are scheduled to hold crucial meetings with key governmental bodies and stakeholders during their visit, further underscoring the commitment to fostering fruitful partnerships.
Notably, the German delegation represents the second-largest foreign delegation to visit the Kurdistan Region, following a recent visit by a similarly influential American delegation. The Kurdistan Regional Government has left no stone unturned in ensuring a favorable environment for foreign companies, aiming to unleash the vast potential and opportunities available across various sectors within the region.
The Kurdish-German Economic Forum is poised to leave a lasting imprint on the economic landscape of the Kurdistan Region, facilitating new avenues for trade, investments, and cooperation between German and Kurdish businesses. As the event progresses, it is expected to yield concrete outcomes that will contribute to the sustainable economic growth and prosperity of the region.
