KDP urges political parties to participate in upcoming elections

Kurdistan Democratic Party spokesman Mahmoud Muhammad said, on Saturday, in a statement that he supported al-Sadr's decision to participate in the elections, saying "Two weeks ago, in an official letter, we called on Mr. Al-Sadr and several other parties, to refrain from boycotting the Iraqi parliamentary elections, and to participate in the process, so that all parties work together to solve the issue of correcting and reforming Iraq.”

On al-Sadr's participation in the elections, the KDP spokesman said, "These decisions serve the public interest and run the process more calmly."

Muqtada al-Sadr decided last month to withdraw from the elections, after which a number of political parties announced their withdrawal. But Sadr's interim leader Muqtada al-Sadr said in a speech in Baghdad on Friday that he and his supporters "will enter these elections with strength and determination in order to save Iraq from occupation and corruption."

At least 24 parties and voters withdrew from the upcoming elections.
