The Iranian consul in Sulaymaniyah denied his country's involvement in missile strikes on Erbil, saying that Iran considers the security of Iraq and the Kurdistan region its own.

He also stressed that with the deterioration of the security situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan region, the Iranian security is under threat.

Mahdi Shoushtari, the Iranian consul in Sulaymaniyah, also strongly denied any connection with the strikes on Erbil, and refutes all the allegations. He stressed that the security of the Kurdistan Region is very important to Iran because they are interconnected.

During the past months, the city of Erbil witnessed several attacks targeting the international coalition forces led by the United States stationed at Erbil International Airport.

The West often accuses Shiite militias linked to Iran of attacking US forces in the Kurdistan region and other provinces in Iraq.
