PM Barzani Holds High-Level Talks with President Erdoğan and Senior Turkish Officials in Istanbul

Masrour Barzani held a series of high-level meetings with senior Turkish leaders and ministers in Istanbul during his official visit to the Türkiye, focusing on regional stability, economic cooperation, energy coordination, and Iraq’s political developments.

In a key meeting at Dolmabahçe Palace, Prime Minister Barzani met with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the presence of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, and National Intelligence Organization Director İbrahim Kalın.

The discussions emphasized strengthening relations between Türkiye and the Kurdistan Region across political, economic, security, and energy sectors. Prime Minister Barzani praised the role of President Erdoğan and Türkiye in supporting peace and stability in the region and reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and coordination.

President Erdoğan, in turn, commended Masoud Barzani and the Kurdistan Region as important factors for peace and stability in the Middle East.

The meeting also addressed ongoing efforts among Iraqi political factions to form a new federal cabinet. Both sides expressed hope that the upcoming Iraqi government would strengthen peace and stability, serve all Iraqi communities without discrimination, and resolve outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.

The peace process and the disarmament of the PKK were also discussed. Prime Minister Barzani reiterated his support for the peace process, while President Erdoğan stressed the importance of continuing efforts to ensure its success and completion.

Separately, Prime Minister Barzani met with Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, where both sides discussed developments affecting the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region. They stressed the importance of preserving security and stability and called for de-escalation across the Middle East.

In another meeting, Prime Minister Barzani and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan exchanged views on regional developments and the formation of Iraq’s new federal cabinet. The two sides also highlighted the strategic importance of the Development Road project, aimed at linking Gulf countries, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region with Türkiye and Europe through a railway network.

Prime Minister Barzani also met with Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar to discuss expanding cooperation in energy and natural resources. The discussions focused on enhancing coordination in trade, oil exports, electricity supply, and broader energy cooperation between Türkiye and the Kurdistan Region.
