Iraq: The Green Zone in Baghdad partially reopened

An Iraqi security source announced the partial reopening of the Green Zone in the center of the capital, Baghdad, after it was closed due to the events that accompanied the demonstrations the day before yesterday, Tuesday.

The source said - in a statement reported by "Alsumaria News" channel today, Thursday - that "the entrance to the Green Zone in the center of the capital, Baghdad, from the side of Umm al-Tabool, was opened to everyone, indicating the stability of the situation with the gradual withdrawal of security forces from the places in which they were deployed."

The source also states that military convoys cannot enter the capital without the approval of Baghdad Operations Command.

On Tuesday, Tahrir Square and other squares in Baghdad witnessed massive demonstrations organized by activists to demand accountability for the perpetrators of the assassinations, and confrontations between demonstrators and security forces resulted in the killing of two people and the injury of 140 others.
