ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani renewed a call for joint efforts between Erbil, Baghdad and the Global Coalition to improve security and stability of the Kurdish disputed areas.

PM Barzani discussed the issue during a meeting on Tuesday with a US military delegation led by the US senior defense official and defense attache in Iraq, Brigadier General Ernest Teichert.

“He expressed concern about instability in the disputed territories and reiterated calls for a joint security measures between Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army with Global Coalition support to restore stability in the these areas,” according to the readout of the meeting.

Brigadier General Ernest Teichert welcomed KRG’s efforts to introduce fundamental reforms, especially at the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.

He reiterated Washington’s commitment to support the Peshmerga forces, who have, according to Teichert, played a significant role in the war against the Islamic State.
