Kurdish Lawmaker Slams PUK’s Deal with Kirkuk Administration to Hand Over IS Detainees
ERBIL — A Kurdish lawmaker on Thursday slammed a deal between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the local administration of Kirkuk to hand over more than 150 Islamic State (IS) detainees.

Earlier on Wednesday, BasNews reported that PUK-affiliated security forces had struck a deal with the Baghdad-appointed governor of Kirkuk and the Arab tribal leaders of the disputed Kurdish province, to hand over more than 150 IS detainees.

MP Hikmat Mohammed said submitting the IS detainees to the local administration of Kirkuk “before trial and without consulting the [Kurdistan] interior ministry is against the law”.

The MP said an deal between the PUK and Kirkuk governor should be investigated as the detainees were not ordinary people, but members of a dangerous terrorist group.
