ERBIL — The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, has welcomed the nomination of Adnan al-Zurfi as the new prime minister-designate of Iraq.

Earlier today, Iraqi President Barham Salih officially named al-Zurfi as the PM-designate to form the cabinet of Iraq, which has faced the country with severe political challenges in the past few months.

“Faced with unprecedented security, political, economic&health crises, Iraq desperately needs an effective Cabinet,” the UN envoy said in an online statement.

She emphasized that the support of the political forces is critical to help al-Zurfi to form the new cabinet and bring about “national unity and success”.

“Hard work ahead,” Hennis-Plasschaert added.
