Kurdistan PM Strongly Condemns Attack on Coalition Forces at Taji Base
"This attack, at a time when ISIS [Islamic State] remains a serious threat in Iraq and the region, will only strengthen extremist groups. Our joint efforts should be focussed on defeating the terrorist threat,” reads the press release by PM Barzani.
The Kurdish leader warned that any move to further complicate the situation in Iraq would harm the entire region. He also urged political parties to work for stability and peace in Iraq.
"Iraq already faces health, economic and security obstacles. Any further escalation will simply harm Iraq and the whole region," he added.
"We call for restraint and urge all parties, including from the wider neighbourhood, to coordinate to stop any further destabilising activity, and to focus on efforts to secure peace and stability to improve the lives of all Iraqi citizens."
PM Barzani also sent condolences to the families of the fallen troops, and wished the injured soldiers a speedy recovery.
