ERBIL - The second case of coronavirus has been confirmed in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the country's Ministry of Health said on Friday.

According to the ministry, a woman, who recently returned from Iran, tested positive for the novel virus on Friday evening.

The 35-year-old is a resident in Baghdad's Karkh area, the ministry added.

This brings the number of people infected with coronavirus in Iraq to eight.

Earlier last week, one case of coronavirus was confirmed in the Iraqi southern province of Najaf, while five other cases were announced in the disputed Kurdish province Kirkuk as well.
