ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Tuesday decided to shut down schools and universities for nearly one month in fear of coronavirus spread.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil. Governors of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and Halabja also attended the meeting.

According to a press release, schools and kindergartens will be closed from 27th February till 24th March. As for the universities and other higher education institutions, the break will begin on 29th February.

The cabinet also urged relevant ministries to consider the suspension of flights to certain destinations affected by coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the government will take all necessary measures to counter the spread of the virus. It will also provide daily updates on the situation in Kurdistan with regards to coronavirus.
