One dead, thousands of homes flooded after downpours in Jakarta
Floodwaters were recorded at 81 locations in Jakarta, including the city's business district, said Agus Wibowo, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.
"Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to last until Wednesday," Agus said. "We call on the public to be prepared."
The bad weather also caused traffic havoc.
A man died when his motorcycle crashed into a curb while riding through a flooded street in central Jakarta, traffic police chief Lilik Sumardi said.
Homes were sumberged in up to one metre of floodwater in some areas.
"I have been stuck at home since this morning without electricity and water," said Mouldie Satria, whose house in eastern Jakarta was among those flooded.
"Now my children are hungry," he added.
Governor Anies Baswedan said an estimated 10,000 homes were affected by the flood.
"We are responding to people's need," Baswedan told reporters. "We are mobilizing our resources."
Floods and landslides are common in Indonesia during the rainy season.
A flash flood swept away nearly 250 student scouts who were hiking along a river near the city of Yogyakarta in central Java over the weekend, killing 10 of them.
At least 66 people were killed in flooding that hit Jakarta and its satellite towns in January.
