Kurdistan Remains a Safe Haven for IDPs, Syrian Refugees: President
ERBIL - The Kurdistan Region has remained a safe haven for displaced people as well as the Syrian refugees, President Nechirvan Barzani stated on Wednesday.

Barzani made the remarks during a meeting with a US congressional delegation led by lawmaker Ralph Abraham in Erbil where the Kurdish president also thanked Washington for its continuous support for the autonomous region and its Peshmerga fighters in the war against terrorism.

He pointed out that "it is imperative that the international community considers the resurgence of terror threats seriously," according to Barzani's office.

They further shed light on the issues of Kurdistan Region's assistance to the IDPs and Syrian refugees "regardless of their religious or ethnic background," the peaceful coexistence of all components in the region, and the threat of Islamic State (IS) resurgence.

Closer cooperations between the Kurdistan Region and US in different areas and ways to further strengthen the relations between the sides were also discussed during the meeting.
