ERBIL — Kurdish prominent leader and the president of ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, on Tuesday received Iraq’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim and his accompanying delegation in Erbil.

Barzani and Hakim exchanged views on the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region, including the formation of the new government in Baghdad by prime minister-designate Mohammed Allawi as well as the current political challenges in the country.

They also discussed the ongoing protests in Baghdad and other southern provinces of Iraq, stressing that the demands of protesters and all components of Iraq should be respected.

The persistent threat of the Islamic State and the need for eradicating extremism were also on the agenda of the meeting.
