Kurdistan President, UN Secretary General Discuss Iraq
Barzani's office said in a statement that the Kurdish president "commended the role of the United Nations and its agencies in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and stressed the need for anti-ISIS international coalition’s continued engagement in order to prevent the resurgence of terrorism."
He also reaffirmed his support for the "legitimate" demands of the Iraqi demonstrators, "as they call for basic services and a better future," the statement added.
Moreover, the two leaders further exchanged views on the political affairs in Iraq, stressing on the need to form a new cabinet in the country.
They also discussed a range of other related topics, including the situation of the IDPs and Syrian refugees who have been hosted by the Kurdistan Region since 2014, when the Islamic State (IS) attacked Iraq and overran a vast area in the country.
