Six people killed in southern German shooting
Stuttgart (dpa) - Six people have been killed and several others injured in a shooting in the small town of Rot am See in southern Germany, police said on Friday.

The six victims and the suspect - a German national - were all members of one family, a police official told reporters.

The 26-year-old suspect killed three men and three women aged between 36 and 69, two of whom were his parents, the official said.

The suspect held a license for the semi-automatic weapon he used. He wounded two other people in the shooting, one of whom sustained life-threatening injuries, the official said.

The shooting took place inside the man's house. Two of the victims were found inside the building and four others outside. The weapon was found inside the house.

Two children aged 12 and 14 were threatened by the suspect and are receiving psychological help, the police said.

The suspect alerted the police himself and told them he had shot several people.

The police confirmed that they were informed of the incident around 12:45 pm and were quickly on the scene "with strong forces." Criminal police will now take over the investigation.

The suspect was in police custody on Friday evening waiting for a lawyer and had not given any information.

There were no indications that anyone else was involved.

Rot am See is a small town with a population of 5,400.
