ERBIL - Germany has hailed the role of the Kurdistan Region in efforts to de-escalate the recent tensions in the Middle East and the region.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani "received on Wednesday a delegation from Germany's Federal Foreign Office headed by Philipp Ackermann, Director-General for Near and Middle East, Africa and Latin America," reads a statement by his office.

"The German delegation praised the Kurdistan Region for its role in de-escalating recent tensions in the Middle East," the statement added.

The Kurdish prime minister, in the meantime, noted that the Kurdistan Region will remain as a "dependable ally" in the region, affirming the autonomous region's commitment to the security of its people.

He further pointed out that the international community "must" continue to support the Kurdistan and Iraq in the fight against terrorism.

"The two sides also discussed the KRG's ongoing and constructive engagement with the federal government of Iraq. Prime Minister Barzani told the delegation that the KRG will continue to work towards the peaceful resolution of disputes and to ensure the protection of the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights," the press release concluded.
