Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Calgary late Wednesday for talks with Canadian officials, including Prime Minister Mark Carney, as Kyiv seeks to strengthen its air defenses and prepare for the coming winter.

Zelenskyy said his visit would focus primarily on helping Ukraine protect its skies and prepare for the cold months ahead. Carney said the discussions would address closer defense, economic and energy cooperation between Canada and Ukraine, reaffirming Ottawa’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense, recovery and reconstruction.

The Canadian visit is part of a broader diplomatic effort by Zelenskyy to secure additional support for Ukraine as Russia continues attacks on critical infrastructure. Zelenskyy has also expressed a desire to meet U.S. President Donald Trump before the end of September to discuss Ukraine’s defense needs.

Meanwhile, fighting continued on both sides. Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces struck a Russian oil refinery in the Yamalo-Nenets region overnight, as well as a seaport in Dagestan and other facilities linked to Russia’s war industry.

In Russia’s Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gusev reported that a woman was killed by falling drone debris in the town of Borisoglebsk. He said at least 19 drones had been destroyed over the region.

Russia’s Defense Ministry separately claimed that 448 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight across several areas.

In Ukraine, Russian attacks struck buildings belonging to a major food producer in Dnipro, killing at least two people, according to local officials.
