Explosion at Weapons and War-Debris Facility in Syria’s Idlib Kills Four

An explosion at a temporary facility used to collect weapons and war debris near Sarmada in northern Idlib province killed four people and injured 10 others on Wednesday, according to an initial toll released by Syria’s Defense Ministry.

The ministry’s Media and Communications Department told state-run SANA that several ministry employees were among those injured in the blast. Authorities have not yet disclosed what caused the explosion or provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The blast comes amid a series of deadly explosions involving weapons and ammunition sites across Idlib and other parts of northern Syria.

In August 2025, an explosion in western Idlib killed six people, including a child, and injured eight others.

A month earlier, two separate explosions in northern Idlib killed 18 people. One blast occurred at an ammunition depot reportedly belonging to the Turkistan Islamic Party, while another struck weapons depots in the towns of Kafriya and Foua in the northern Idlib countryside.
