Safin Dizayee, head of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Department of Foreign Relations, held an online meeting Monday with diplomatic representatives from several Arab countries to discuss recent attacks on the Kurdistan Region and developments across the wider Middle East.

The meeting was attended by the consuls of Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Dizayee thanked the Arab countries for condemning the recent attacks on official institutions in the Kurdistan Region, describing their political and diplomatic support as highly valued by the KRG.

He said the attacks should not be viewed solely as attempts to undermine the Region’s security, arguing that they also carried a political dimension because senior Kurdish leaders and their residences had been targeted, including the compounds of the Kurdistan Region’s president and prime minister.

Dizayee also condemned attacks and violations targeting Gulf and Arab countries and expressed solidarity with their governments and peoples. He stressed the importance of protecting the security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Gulf and Arab states.

“The Kurdistan Region supports efforts to de-escalate tensions and establish peace and security across the region,” Dizayee said, according to a statement issued after the meeting.

Dizayee also expressed hope that Arab consuls and their staff would return to the Kurdistan Region as soon as possible. He said their presence would contribute to strengthening political, economic and cultural ties and reflect the deep and historic relations between the Kurdistan Region and Arab countries.

The meeting also focused on the current regional situation, possible future developments and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

The Arab diplomatic representatives reaffirmed their opposition to any targeting of the Kurdistan Region and threats to its security and stability. They emphasized the importance of their relations with both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole, while calling for greater coordination and dialogue to resolve disputes and conflicts.

The diplomats also thanked Dizayee for initiating the meeting and praised the KRG Department of Foreign Relations for facilitating coordination and providing support to diplomatic missions in the Kurdistan Region.
