Iran Warns U.S. and Israel Against New Attacks as World Leaders Prepare to Attend Khamenei's Funeral

Iran has issued a stern warning to the United States and Israel against launching any further military action as the country prepares for the state funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in Israeli airstrikes on the opening day of the recent war.

Speaking on Thursday, Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned that any attack on Iran during the funeral period would be met with a severe military response.

"We warn the enemies of Iran, especially the United States and the Zionist regime (Israel), to avoid any miscalculation and to think about the harsh retaliation our armed forces would make to any threat and aggression against our country," Abdollahi said in a statement carried by Iranian state media.

Funeral ceremonies will begin in Tehran on July 4 before continuing through Qom, Iraq, and concluding with Khamenei's burial in his hometown of Mashhad on July 9.

Meanwhile, Iran's Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, called on millions of Iranians to attend the funeral, describing public participation as a symbolic act of national unity and resistance.

"The nation's call for vengeance must ring in the ears of the whole world," Ghalibaf said, urging citizens to "write a glorious page in the history of Islamic Iran."

Several countries have confirmed they will send high-level representatives to the funeral.

India announced that Governor of Bihar Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita will travel to Tehran on July 3. India's Ministry of External Affairs said the delegation reflects the strong historical, cultural, political, and economic ties between the two countries.

Pakistan confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will personally attend the funeral, while China said He Wei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, will represent Beijing.

Separately, Iran's joint military command warned that all oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz must follow routes approved by Iranian authorities or face what it described as an "immediate and forceful response."

The military also accused continued U.S. fighter jet operations over the strategic waterway of undermining regional security.

Despite ongoing tensions, Cathay Pacific announced it will resume passenger flights to Dubai and Riyadh beginning September 1, with cargo services to Riyadh restarting on August 1.

The Hong Kong-based airline had suspended operations following the outbreak of the conflict and said it would continue monitoring security conditions before restoring services.

In a related regional development, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani visited Beirut, where he met Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri after holding talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

The visit comes as Syria reiterated that it has no intention of becoming militarily involved in Lebanon despite international pressure, with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa emphasizing that Damascus does not seek to reopen old regional conflicts.
