Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, received Tom Barrack, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Iraq and Syria, for talks on bilateral relations, regional developments, and key issues facing Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting focused on relations between the United States and Iraq, as well as cooperation with the Kurdistan Region. Ambassador Barrack reaffirmed Washington’s strong support for the newly formed Iraqi government, while both sides stressed the importance of maintaining state control over arms.

President of Kurdistan Region reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s support for the government of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and emphasized the need to resolve outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.

The two sides also agreed on the importance of strengthening U.S.-Iraqi ties and developing them into a balanced, long-term economic partnership that serves the interests of both countries.

The discussions further covered recent regional developments, the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region, and relations between Erbil and Baghdad. Both sides welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict and expressed hope that it would help promote peace, stability, and security throughout the region.

Kurdistan Region President, Nechirvan Barzani, held a meeting with Tom Barrack, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Iraq and Syria, and Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Their discussion focused on the current political and security situation in the region, developments in Syria, and cooperation between the Kurds and the Damascus government. Ambassador Barrack reiterated his country’s commitment to supporting peace and stability and to finding solutions to the challenges facing Syria.

President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that dialogue and mutual understanding among the parties involved, as well as safeguarding the rights of the Kurds and other communities in Syria, are essential to resolving the issues. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s support for efforts aimed at resolving conflicts and ensuring security and stability.

The meeting also discussed enhancing cooperation and coordination to effectively counter the threat of terrorism and promote stability in the region.
