Kurdistan Region Records Tourism Surge as Investments Exceed $7.5 Billion

The Kurdistan Region is experiencing unprecedented growth in its tourism sector, with visitor numbers rising significantly across its cities and provinces and foreign tourism continuing to expand, according to the General Board of Tourism.

Speaking to Kurdistan 24, the board's spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdul Majid, said the steady influx of tourists has become a major engine of economic growth, contributing to stronger local markets and increased commercial activity throughout the region.

"The tourism sector has become a fundamental pillar in stimulating economic activity and supporting businesses across the Kurdistan Region," Abdul Majid said.

The official revealed that the region has completed 80 tourism projects over the past five years, attracting investments worth more than $7.5 billion. He described the figures as a reflection of investors' confidence in Kurdistan's stable and attractive investment environment.

Abdul Majid also highlighted significant progress in tourism infrastructure, noting that the region is now home to approximately 40 five-star tourism facilities and resorts operating under internationally recognized brands. These establishments provide high-quality services to both domestic and international visitors, further strengthening the region's appeal as a tourism destination.

The growth comes amid ongoing efforts by the Kurdistan Regional Government to develop tourism as a strategic pillar of economic diversification. Authorities have sought to reduce reliance on oil revenues by encouraging investment in non-oil sectors, particularly tourism, through a range of incentives and facilitation measures for investors and visitors.
