Donald Trump Returns to Washington After High-Level Talks With Xi Jinping

US President Donald Trump departed Beijing on Friday aboard Air Force One after concluding two days of high-level meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as both leaders projected a cordial atmosphere despite persistent disagreements over Iran and Taiwan.

During the visit, Trump and Xi held a working lunch and participated in a traditional tea ceremony at Zhongnanhai, the central leadership compound often described as China’s equivalent of the White House. The meetings focused on trade, regional security, and bilateral relations between the world’s two largest economies.

Speaking before leaving China, Trump said the two sides had reached “fantastic trade deals,” though he did not provide specific details about the agreements or their scope.

Despite the positive tone surrounding economic cooperation, major geopolitical differences remained unresolved. China has shown little public willingness to take a larger role in efforts aimed at ending the ongoing war involving Iran, an issue Washington continues to prioritize diplomatically.

Taiwan also emerged as a sensitive subject during the discussions. Xi reportedly warned that continued disagreements over the island could place China and the United States on a path toward confrontation, underscoring the deep strategic tensions that continue to shape relations between Beijing and Washington.
