The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, received on Monday, April 20, 2026, the President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Dirjal, to discuss the state of sports in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting focused on enhancing coordination and strengthening cooperation mechanisms between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in the sports sector. Both sides emphasized the importance of joint efforts to further develop the sporting landscape across the country.

The President of the Iraqi Football Association praised the Prime Minister’s continued support for sports and athletes throughout Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He noted that this backing has contributed to the advancement of sports clubs in the Region, their growing prominence in the national sports scene, and the achievement of notable sporting successes at both national and international levels.

For his part, Masrour Barzani commended the role of the Iraqi Football Association in promoting and developing sports in Iraq, reaffirming his full support for its ongoing efforts to advance the sporting sector.
