Kurdistan PM Condemns Drone Attacks on Region, Calls for Federal Action and International Support

The prime minister Masrour Barzani has strongly condemned a series of drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region over the past several days, warning that the assaults threaten stability despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Barzani said the Kurdistan Region has not been involved in the current conflict but has nevertheless come under repeated attack.

“We strongly condemn the ongoing drone attacks against the Kurdistan Region over the last several days,” Barzani wrote. “Although we have not been part of the conflict, we continue to come under attack.”

According to the prime minister, the strikes have killed at least five people and injured several others. He said the attacks appear aimed at undermining the ceasefire and destabilizing the region.

Barzani also urged the federal authorities in Iraq to take concrete steps to prevent further attacks originating from Iraqi territory.

“We reiterate our call on the federal government to take practical measures to end these attacks,” he said.

The Kurdistan prime minister further called on international partners to help strengthen the region’s defensive capabilities, particularly to safeguard civilian areas and critical energy infrastructure.

“We urge our international partners to provide the equipment necessary to protect Kurdistan from these ongoing threats, including our civilian and energy infrastructure,” Barzani added.
