KRG Condemns Drone Attacks on Kurdistan Region Despite Commitment to Peace
The Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced that several drone attacks targeted multiple locations across the Kurdistan Region on the night of Thursday, 9 April 2026, despite a declared ceasefire in the region.
According to the ministry, all incoming drones were successfully intercepted and neutralized, and no significant damage or casualties were reported.
In an official statement released on 10 April 2026, the ministry emphasized that the Kurdistan Regional Government remains firmly committed to peace and stability and has consistently avoided involvement in conflict or escalation.
The statement described the attacks as actions carried out by “terrorist elements and malicious actors” who are unable to tolerate the region’s peace and progress. Officials noted that the attacks occurred at a time when citizens of the Kurdistan Region were expecting a return to normal life following the ceasefire.
The Ministry of Interior reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government’s strong support for peace and called on all parties to immediately halt such attacks. The ministry also urged actors involved in the conflict to refrain from actions that could undermine the security of the Kurdistan Region and threaten the wellbeing of its citizens.
