U.S. Hunts for Missing F-15 Pilot as Iran Claims Additional Shoot-Down and UN Delays Hormuz Vote

The United States has launched an intensive search operation for a missing crew member after a F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet was shot down over Iran. One of the aircraft’s two crew members has been successfully rescued, while the second remains missing as U.S. forces continue search-and-rescue operations in the region.

The downing of the aircraft occurred during ongoing military operations involving U.S. forces. Rescue teams, including helicopters and support aircraft, have been deployed despite reports of hostile fire during the recovery effort.

Iranian officials meanwhile claim that their air defenses also brought down a second U.S. aircraft, an A-10 Thunderbolt II attack plane near the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, the pilot of that aircraft ejected and was safely rescued, though Iran has presented the incident as evidence of its defensive capabilities.

The events come amid growing concern over security in the strategic waterway, which handles a significant portion of the world’s oil shipments.

At the diplomatic level, the United Nations Security Council has postponed a planned vote on whether to authorize the use of force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The vote was delayed until next week as member states continue negotiations over how to respond to the escalating situation.

Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran reported a strike near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, but the agency confirmed that no radiation leak has been detected. Iranian authorities said one person was killed in the incident.
