Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, has congratulated the Iraqi people following the qualification of the Iraq national football team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement issued on the occasion, the President of the Kurdistan Region described the qualification as a historic achievement and a moment of pride and joy for all Iraqis. The national team secured its place in the World Cup after defeating the Bolivia national football team 2–1 in Mexico.

The President of the Kurdistan Region said the achievement comes after four decades of anticipation, praising the determination and dedication of the players and the sports community whose efforts made the long-awaited dream of reaching the World Cup a reality.

The President of the Kurdistan Region also wished the Iraq national football team continued success in the group-stage matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing hope that the victory will bring greater unity, happiness, and harmony to the people of Iraq.
