Rubio Heads to France for G7 Talks, Emphasizes Loyalty to American People
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is traveling to France to participate in the upcoming G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where top diplomats from the world’s leading economies will discuss pressing global security challenges, including tensions in the Middle East and the ongoing Russia–Ukraine War.
According to the United States Department of State, the ministerial meeting will focus on strengthening cooperation among G7 nations on international security, diplomatic coordination, and responses to global crises.
Ahead of the meeting, Rubio shared a message on social media stating that the discussions will center on “the security concerns we share around the world and opportunities to address the situation in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine war.”
In a separate statement released by the State Department, Rubio stressed that his primary responsibility is to the American public rather than foreign governments.
“I don’t work for France or Germany or Japan,” Rubio said. “I get along with all of them on a personal level and we work with those governments very carefully. But the people I'm interested in making happy are the people of the United States. I work for them.”
The G7 meeting is expected to bring together foreign ministers from major economies including France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, and the United States. Officials say the talks will address coordination on sanctions, regional stability, and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing global tensions.
