KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Attends Funeral in Soran for Six Peshmerga Killed in Iranian Missile Attack, Vows to Uphold Martyrs’ Legacy

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani attended the funeral ceremony in Soran on Wednesday for the six Peshmerga fighters who were killed in an Iranian missile attack in the early hours of Tuesday, March 24.

Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister addressed members of the press to offer his condolences to the families and relatives of the martyrs and to the people of the Kurdistan Region. In his statement, he reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to continue on the patriotic path of the fallen fighters.

“With deep sorrow, we extend our condolences to His Excellency President Barzani, to the relatives and the proud families of the martyrs, and to all of us over the loss of these six heroic martyrs. We also wish the wounded a speedy recovery,” the Prime Minister said.

He described the attack on the Peshmerga forces as an act of “treachery and betrayal,” stressing that it was carried out without justification. The Prime Minister underscored the significance of the martyrs’ sacrifice, saying, “It is because of the blood of the martyrs that we live with pride in our country, and that Kurdistan is precious because of their sacrifice. Just as the blood of the martyrs has never been shed in vain, this time too it will not be in vain.”

Reaffirming the government’s stance on security and regional stability, the Prime Minister stated that while the Kurdistan Region does not seek to be drawn into war and desires to remain protected, it will take necessary measures to defend its dignity, rights, land, and homeland. He emphasized the government’s resolve to continue along the path of the martyrs and the leadership of President Barzani.
