SDF, With Coalition Backing, Dismantles IS Cell in Central Raqqa

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by the US-led International Coalition, announced on Saturday the successful dismantling of a four-member Islamic State (IS) cell in a precise security raid in the center of Raqqa.

The operation, conducted by SDF military operations teams (TOL), was based on accurate intelligence and targeted a hideout used by the suspected militants within the city. All four individuals were captured without any casualties among civilians or participating forces, according to an SDF statement.

During the raid, security units confiscated a significant arsenal intended for terrorist activities. The seized items included a large cache of weapons, explosives, and communication equipment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the detainees admitted to a primary role of gathering intelligence on SDF military positions and facilities in preparation for armed attacks. The SDF further stated that the suspects were in direct contact with IS leadership and had been transmitting sensitive information to the group.

"The operation was part of ongoing efforts to dry up terrorist networks and safeguard security and stability in the region," said the SDF media center, emphasizing that counterterrorism missions would continue.

Raqqa, once the de facto capital of the Islamic State's so-called "caliphate," was liberated in 2017 after a major offensive led by the SDF with extensive Coalition support. Despite IS's territorial defeat in the region, sleeper cells have remained active in parts of northeastern Syria, conducting assassinations, bombings, and intelligence operations.

The SDF, which administers large areas of northern and eastern Syria, has intensified security campaigns in urban centers like Raqqa, Hasakah, and Deir ez-Zor to counter this persistent threat. These operations are conducted with ongoing coalition support, as local authorities warn that maintaining stability in Raqqa is critical for the broader security of northeastern Syria.
