Barzani Charity Foundation Launches Major Flood Relief in Chamchamal
The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has initiated a large-scale, three-stage relief operation for communities devastated by recent flash floods in Chamchamal district.
The floods, triggered by torrential rains, severely damaged approximately 500 homes and over 100 shops, leaving a thick layer of sludge just as winter sets in. Sub-districts like Takiya and Shorish were hit hardest.
"The priority is getting people warm and safe," said Rebwar Mohieddin, head of the BCF's Kirkuk office.
The BCF’s response includes: 1) the physical cleanup of sludge from homes, 2) the daily distribution of hot meals, and 3) the provision of winter aid—including mattresses, blankets, heaters, and fuel—based on damage assessments.
The Kurdistan Regional Government has also mobilized, ordering immediate aid and infrastructure repair. The floods, part of wider regional disruptions, also replenished water reserves by an estimated 250 million cubic meters in the Kurdistan Region.
